Spring has come, and so the new season of anime has descended upon us.
As I'm too lazy to write a proper post, this will just be my dumb take on this season's anime (so far, one episode in).
The Good Stuff
On the Angry Urinalist-scale(tm), these will likely have your average anime news-writer frothing in pure anger.
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Season 2
Shield Bro is back in The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2. Guess it's time for ANN et al. to bring out their tired old "muh-soggy-knee" arguments once more.
The first episode didn't exactly start off with the best of impressions (I'm looking at you, you incredibly annoying green haired bitch), but there's still room for hope. As long as we get more scenes where the Spear calls lil princess by name, I'm pretty satisfied.
Otomege Sekai wa Mob ni Kibishii Sekai desu
Contender of the season for longest title, here comes Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games Is Tough for Mobs.
The light novel the story is based on was, quite frankly, not the best out there, but it did have its share of good moments, and hopefully the adaption does it at least some level of justice.
Spy x Family
Cute child detected. Nice. 👌
Summer Time Render
The concept seems fairly interesting, and the animation is pretty neat. Let's just hope that Summer( T|t)ime Render(ing)? doesn't turn into a mess later on.
Just, don't bother getting any Soy Plus or whatever for it.
The Middle Tier
For those anime that's of...as of yet undetermined quality. These could turn out to be Trash-tier later, or they could end up getting bumped up as the episodes go on; only time will tell.
Shijou Saikyou no Daimaou, Murabito A ni Tensei suru
While The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody is undoubtedly a trashy show, it could still prove to be a decent time-waster.
What we get here is your rather typical OP Demon Lord Who's Bored of Being OP, So He Reincarnates... Don't know if that particular trope is overused, but it sure sounds like it. Anyways, the first episode does show some promise, but it sure isn't going to win any narrative awards, that's for sure.
Aharen-san wa Hakarenai
Yeah, so this show's certain a thing. Dunno how to classify it, but it's one of those Nothing Happens, But The Main Girl's Cute, At Least-kinda shows, I guess.
I have to say, the themes listed for Ya Boy Kongming! didn't exactly have me thrilled, at first putting it off, but this anime actually seems fairly promising.
Although perhaps not Anime of the Year-material, it does feature some fairly good music, and Mr Kongming does come across as a fairly interesting fella. Hopefully the series can keep it up.
Kunoichi Tsubaki no Mune no Uchi
So, In The Heart of Kunoichi Tsubaki is certainly a thing... Not sure what else to say for now.
If nothing else, the characters are nice to look at. Aside from that, I've nothing much to say about The Dawn of the Witch.
Also, I swear it's a dude they've casted as the VA for that Principal... Then again, perhaps the character's actually supposed to be a man, seeing as it even uses Boku when refering to itself.
Cute girls doing cute things, aka: Nothing happens for twelve episodes, but at least there's cute girls. If that sounds awesome, then great, I bet RPG Real Estate will be just your thing.
Heroine Tarumono!: Kiraware Heroine to Naisho no Oshigoto
Heroines Run the Show is one of those series which could either be great, or a pile of absolute and utter garbage. Guess next episode will tell which direction it goes.
Tags include Shoujo, Idol and Athletics. Prospective watchers will likely want to keep this in mind when deciding whether to bother.
Insert description here.
For all those obligatory garbage anime that somehow always gets animated, only to inflict critical damage upon us all.
Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu
Skeleton Knight in Another World, or otherwise known as Terribad CG Skellington in Another World.
Welcome to this season's butchered light novel isekai adaption. I've nothing more to say about this travesty.
Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road
Having heard much praise for the novel, I had great expectations for The Executioner and Her Way of Life... Well, the first episode hasn't exactly filled me with confidence.
It's first episode, while pretty on the eyes, employs cheap and tired methods to make for a great "plot twist" towards the end of the first half, whereas the latter consists of a lengthy set of exposition. Neither of which feels engaging.
Postscript, as of the third episode: The series sure looks pretty and all, but the story seems utterly ret– Ahem! I mean, kinda boring. Might downgrade it later, but it's at least passable for now. It might even be a hit for some more easily entertained people.
Update, as of the fifth episode: Given the amount of praise to high heavens I've heard of the original light novel series, I expected something far better than whatever cheap trashy story we got. With that said, I'm not only demoting this to the Trash-pile, but also considering writing up a critique-type-thing post. Seriously, fuck this kind of storytelling.
So, I’m Quitting Heroing got one of the least creative backstory for its protagonist I've ever come across. The Demon Lord, Echidna's henchmen is a pack of truly and wholly boring bunch as well.
All in all, a splendid example of bottom of the barrel anime.
Pic says it all. Go watch Deaimon: Recipe for Happiness if you've got an unhinged love for chestnuts and guitars... Otherwise, might as well skip this one.
Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san
Something, something, Shounen + Coming of Age... Yeah, nope, into the Trash Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie goes.
The only reason to watch this would be for the art itself, which isn't the worst of the lot. Not enough reason for me to bother, though there might be those that are into that.
Sees Football tag, and into the trash Aoashi goes.
Kono Healer, Mendokusai
Truly, Don’t Hurt Me, My Healer! has got a most annoying Healer, and just in general, indeed.
Terribad attempts at slapstick comedy combined with a derpy animation style... Into the trash it goes. Also, what the hell's with the localized title?
Koi wa Sekai Seifuku no Ato de
Superhero + Shounen tag... Into the Trash it – Love After World Domination – goes.
BIRDIE WING: Golf Girls' Story
Dance Dance Danseur
Can't say I've ever been much for dance or performance in general, but Dance Dance Danseur did get a fairly interesting first episode.
Not only do I have no interest in dance performance, I am not too huge on the style. While that could've been tolerated as long as the rest was good enough, the story is a bit too cringe for me to stomach continuing the series. So, into the Trash it went.
